It's been an eventful walk and I'm hoping to get Marc to write something here in the next few days and I'll come back with the final total later in the month.

So on behalf of Marc, Steve and Greyhound Gap thank you for the support, for following the walk and for all the generous donations.

9 and a half done and first pit stop!

Should have been the shortest day but actually turned out to be a long difficult day after they came across a group of girls doing their Duke of Edinburgh award. One of their party had collapsed and neither they nor the boys had any signal on the mobiles. As police officers they have basic first aid skills and were able to put the young girl into recovery and decided it was a severe case of heat stroke and de-hydration along with massive panic attacks. After calming her down and re hydrating her they then had to set about bringing her off the mountain. Eventually once the signal on their mobiles came back they rang her support vehicle and found a place that the van could reach but it was some 3 miles away and took another 3 and a half hours to get her there. Once they had safely handed her over she was rushed to hospital! Once they had actually finished the walk they headed to the nearest pub and were met by a round of applause from people also walking the route who had seen what they had done. So far from the shortest day it ended up with two exhausted hero’s, well that’s what a group of Americans said LOL.

Day 1

A nice easy start to the walk with a short romp of 14.75 miles! A good chance to get used to walking with the backpacks and trying out the navigating skills LOL.Weather forecast is cloudy/drizzle and 15 degrees, so no chance of getting sun burnt today!

A time tested tradition marks the start of the walk with a paddle in the sea at St Bees before setting off.

and a photo pointing to the start of the coast to coast walk...
So 200 miles in 9 days has to be worth donating a few pennies to such a worthy cause doesn't it!
If you would like to donate all monies received will go to Greyhound Gap as Marc and Steve are funding the travel and accomodations costs themselves.

The week before they set off there is to be a big piece in the local paper, so hopefully that might generate some donations as it's been quite difficult on the fundraising side, times are hard and people just don't have much to give which we all fully appreciate!

Donations can be made via the just giving page or by contacting me.

Once the walk starts I will update the blog daily with their progress and hopefully they will remember to take photo's for me to add......
The raffle helped to bring the total for the night to £390! plus a few of the better prizes which were all donated by local companies will be auctioned off seperatly!

A second batch of letter have gone out and we hope to have a nother raffle, the local paper are going to do a big article the week before the walk starts and the local radio station hope to talk to Marc and Steve each day live.
Sponsor forms are doing well , although we now feel the target of £2,000 may be difficult to reach but we sure are trying LOl...Sue aka Greyhound Loverhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03336712088816243258noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2167975109392145257.post-86615403918675589182011-05-10T10:29:00.000-07:002011-05-10T11:23:02.401-07:00Launching the coast to coast blogOk my name is Sue and I am Marc's Mum, aka rulusmum on greyhound gap and greyhound lover in the crafting world but for the purpose of this blog I shall be known as the walk coordinator, I gave myself that title LOL. Well I deserve something having been roped in to help and I didn't fancy dogsbody!

The aim of this blog is to keep people informed as to how the fundraising is going and once the walk starts to do daily updates.

Marc and Steve have self funded this walk so all money donated goes to greyhound gap! we have sent out over 100 letter to local companies asking for donations or prizes for the raffle and had a moderate response so far! There is to be a quiz night on the 20th May when the raffle and auction will take place, also a dress down day at the police station for civilian workers has been agreed to by the top brass. Also hoping to add a few more fundraising events time permitting.

So far there has been several articles in the local paper (go to page 6 for one of them) giving the walk good publicity and hopefully another nearer the time. We are also hoping the local radio station will be talking live to the boys each day as they walk.

If you would like to make a donation that would be fabulous and can be done via the just giving page or by contacting me, also if you could pass this blog address out to friends and family that would be fantastic! and why not add yourself as a follower.Sue aka Greyhound Loverhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03336712088816243258noreply@blogger.com1
